John Collantes Huamán, Radio Horizonte
ATTACKED

Collantes, who hosts a show on Radio Horizonte, was attacked after reporting on government corruption in the city of Cusco. Three unidentified men approached Collantes outside the station at around noon, the journalist said. The assailants punched him in the face and stabbed him in the left leg, he told CPJ.

Station Director Aurora Yánez heard Collantes’ cries for help and came to the journalist’s aid, prompting the assailants to speed away in a car that was parked nearby. Collantes received medical treatment for his wounds.

Witnesses told Collantes that the three men had been waiting for several hours outside the radio station, the reporter said. Collantes believes the attack could have been motivated by his criticism of local authorities. Police have begun an investigation, but no suspects were immediately detained.
