Abdi Rizak Warsame, Radio ShabelleATTACKED

Warsame, a reporter of leading independent Radio Shabelle in the capital Mogadishu, was assaulted and robbed by two policemen from Somalia’s Ethiopian-backed transitional government on his way home from work, according to news reports and local journalists.

The officers stopped the journalist near the main Bakara market, and beat up the journalist with rifle butts after he identified himself as a journalist, Shabelle senior producer Mohammed Abdi Afgoye told CPJ. They also seized his mobile phone and some money.

Warsame was ordered to walk away without looking back or be shot dead after more than half an hour, according to Afgoye.
