Journalist threatened with death after reporting on corruption in local government

Lluen, director of the Casma-based daily El Guerrero, was threatened with death by a local government official after reporting on corruption in the local government, the journalist told CPJ.

Yutaca Cadota, personal assistant to the local mayor, approached Lluen on the street in the northeastern city of Casma, 220 miles (355 km) from Lima. The journalist told CPJ that Cadota threatened him and his family with death if he did not stop writing about the mayor. The journalist had reported on irregularities in the local government since January, he told CPJ.

Lluen told CPJ that he lodged a complaint with the local police on January 26.
