His Excellency Hu Jintao President, People’s Republic of China C/o Embassy of the People’s Republic of China 2300 Connecticut Ave., NW Washington, D.C. 20008 Dear President Hu: The Committee to Protect for Journalists is deeply concerned by China’s poor press freedom record. With at least 29 journalists behind bars today, China jails more journalists than any other country in the world; a distinction it has held for nine years in a row. As the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing approach, there is an opportunity to join the international community with respect to press freedom. It is time to live up to the commitments that were made for “complete media freedom” when Beijing was awarded the Games in 2001. Let journalists do their jobs. Free China’s jailed journalists. Please send me CPJ’s news reports on China’s press situation. (Optional.)
