DWRC-FM radio station attacked

Armed men set fire to the community radio station DWRC FM Radyo Cagayano, in Baggao town in Cagayan province, more than 200 miles (320 kilometers) north of Manila, according to local news reports and the Philippines Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility. The station is partly funded by the left-wing political party Bayan Muna and the local government.

At around 2 am, eight unidentified men stormed into the station and burned down the transmitter and broadcast booth. Six staff members suffered bruises as they fled the building after the attackers tied and blindfolded them.

The station was opened in May and had been highly critical of the military based in the area, according to local media reports.
