Authorities stopped FM transmission of French broadcaster Radio France Internationale (RFI) after a French judge accused President Paul Kagame, the Tutsi former rebel leader, of involvement in the death of his predecessor in 1994, according to international media reports. Kagame denied any involvement, but severed diplomatic relations with France. The downing of Hutu President Juvénal Habyarimana’s plane was the trigger for massacres of more than 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus.

“The radio has been taken off air in line with the cabinet decision stopping all activities of state institutions of France,” information minister Laurent Nkusi told Agence France-Presse.
