THREATENED

Baidya has received death threats in a letter, several telephone calls, and text messages. Baidya said the threats could be linked to a three-year old article he wrote about High Court Justice Faisal Mahmud Faijee for the Bengali-language newspaper Bhorer Kagog. The article alleged that Faijee had faked academic credentials to get his position. This report was never acted on until the caretaker government took power in January, and launched an anti-corruption drive. Faijee was soon removed from his position. Baidya, a Hindu, also reported on growing militant student and faculty Islamic activities at Chittagong University in Bangladesh.
