Unknown assailants on April 8, 2017, abducted and assaulted Gertrude Uwitware, a health reporter for the private Ugandan broadcaster NTV, from the streets of Kampala, according to the journalist and her employer.

An unidentified group of armed men abducted Aboubaker Al-Bizanti, a producer for Art Media Solutions (AMS), which produces local news coverage for the broadcaster Libya Al-Ahrar TV and other television stations, the night of August 7, 2016, and released him the following day, according to the journalist, his colleagues, and Libyan news websites.

Tanzanian journalist abducted, beaten for Zanzibar election coverage

Unknown assailants abducted Salma Said, a reporter with the Kiswahili-language Mwananchi ("Citizen") newspaper and a correspondent for Germany's international broadcaster Deutsche Welle, shortly after the journalist arrived at Dar es Salaam's Julius Nyerere International Airport on March 18, 2016, according to news reports and a statement she made to the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRD). Said's abductors released her on March 20, a representative of THRD told CPJ.

South Sudanese journalist found beaten

Nairobi, March 8, 2016 - South Sudanese authorities should immediately launch an independent, thorough investigation into the abduction and beating of journalist Joseph Afandi and punish those responsible, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today. Colleagues found Afandi dumped near a graveyard in Juba today, beaten and bearing marks of torture, according to press accounts.

Body of missing Veracruz crime reporter Anabel Flores Salazar found in neighboring state

New York, February 9, 2016--The body of Anabel Flores Salazar, a reporter for El Sol de Orizaba who was abducted from her home near the city of Orizaba in Veracruz on Monday, was found today in the neighboring state of Puebla, according to a Puebla state official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the matter. The Committee to Protect Journalists calls on Mexican federal authorities to take over investigation and prosecution of the crime and to consider journalism as a motive.
